Elminster in Myth Drannor by Ed Greenwood

Elminster is involved in the story arc “Dragonreach” [12] in the Forgotten Realms comics. He later undergoes further magical training under the tutelage of a wicked sorceress who seeks to tempt him away from Mystra’s path.

While I enjoyed the book and the story, I think it could have been handled in an overall better manner. The story attempts to paint a picture of a people, so it’s bound to get hairy.

Though not accepted by most of the noble caste, Elminster convinces the ruling Coronal and the powerful guardian of the forest the Shrinshee to trust and teach him.

A relatively light-hearted book when compared to the more violent Elminster in Hellit focuses primarily on the life of one of Elminster’s children, Narnra Shalace. Elminster’s Daughter [10] takes place a few years after Elminster in Hell. He speaks in a gruff tone and generally wears nondescript attire. Elminster was one of the first characters that Greenwood created for the Forgotten Realms. I am most definitely looking forward to reading the remaining books in the Elminster series. I did not like Elminster elmister Myth Drannor as much as the first book in the series Making of a Mageprimarily because Elminster is offstage for a large portion of the book; also because he does not have as much agency in this one, calling on his elinster Mystra to bail him out of trouble a little too frequently. He is powerful but mortal, and with all the enemies a man who makes a habit of saving the world tends to accumulate. Perhaps if I read it again, I’d feel less like the ending was mytth.

Also, so many times, it just felt like nothing was happening, plot wise. El,inster is plenty of magic, intrigue, and pathos to keep the reader coming back. As an adult, I enjoyed the first third ishwas fairly satisfied with the next third ishand by that point kyth that everything had appeared to go downhill.

Much like Indiana Jones in “Raiders of the Lost Ark” I couldn’t help but shake the feeling that events would have played out more or less as they did even if Elminster had not been in the story. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended.
